Art is Good for the Heart

Recently my friend, Michelle, had a great idea for Christmas at our church. Why not have people share their memories of Christmas as a child. I loved the idea and started thinking right away. As I traveled down memory lane here is one story that lodged in my heart. It has nothing to do with Christmas but everything to do with my childhood.

Uncle Rudolph, my mother’s brother, was the best person I know. He exuded a sense of protection, love and kindness. But the thing I remembered best about him was his voice. He was always singing. I don’t remember the words, they must have been his favorite hymns, but those mellow sounds moved my young heart and whatever I was doing at the time faded away and I stopped and listened. That was my first introduction to the arts. A memory that stays with me, and even in down times music still manages to lift me out of despair.

My favorite uncle died when I was 6. My life changed forever.

My wish for you is that you have experienced art in your life that touched your heart. Would you recreate the scene for us…?
